How to Install University Software

CITS has a set of software that is reviewed, approved, acquired, and made available to all University members as official University software. A subset of that software is available for install without the need for administrative privileges. This article explains how to install University software on your University computer.


Please note that the following are required to install University software on your computer:
  • A desktop/laptop computer that:
    • belongs to Alcorn State University,
    • is in the University domain, and...
    • runs Windows 7 or above.


Please note that the steps marked in bold are words that you can see on your computer screen.
  1. Save all unsaved work and close all other open windows on your computer.
  2. On your computer, click the Start Menu/Button in the lower left corner of your screen. The Start Menu will pop up.
  3. In the Start Menu, click on All Programs (If you're using Windows 10, you'll need to click All Apps).
  4. Next, scroll down through the list of applications and click on the Microsoft System Center folder to open the folder.
  5. Next click on Software Center. The Software Center window will appear in a few seconds after that.
  6. In the Software Center window on the left, click on Applications.
  7. Next, on the right, look for and click on the software that you wish to install on your computer.
  8. On the Application Details page, click the Install button on the page.
After several minutes, you should see that the application has installed. For some software applications, you may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
