How to Set Your Computer Up to Encrypt Email

On occasion, you may have to send messages containing sensitive data to users outside of the University. To do this successfully, you'll need to use the Encrypt your email message, but before doing this, you'll need to set up the ability to Encrypt email messages in Microsoft Outlook. Please note that the steps marked in bold are words that you can see on your computer screen.

  1. On your computer, close all Microsoft Outlook windows that are currently open.
  2. On your computer, click the Start Menu/Button in the lower left corner of your screen. The Start Menu will pop up.
  3. In the Start Menu, click on All Programs (If you're using Windows 10, you'll need to click All Apps).
  4. Next, scroll down to through the list of applications and click on the Microsoft System Center folder to open the folder.
  5. Next click on Software Center. The Software Center window will appear in a few seconds after that.
  6. In the Software Center window on the left, click on Applications.

  1. Next, on the right, look for and click on Barracuda Spam Firewall Outlook.
  2. On the Application Details page, click the Install button on the page.

In a within a few seconds to a minute, you should see that the application has installed. You can open Microsoft Outlook and begin to send encrypted email messages.
