For some online courses that use Blackboard Collaborate, you may be asked by your instructor to make and share a presentation (typically in the Microsoft PowerPoint format), and though you can find instructions on how to share a PowerPoint file in the Blackboard Basics Guide for Students, these instructions will walk you through an alternative process of sharing a Microsoft PowerPoint file in Blackboard Collaborate by way of sharing your PowerPoint application in the Collaborate session.

Before beginning these steps, please keep in mind that you will need to already have joined the Blackboard Collborate session you plan to share in as well as have the PowerPoint file already saved to your computer and open in a Microsoft PowerPoint window.

(Please note that the bold text indicates text that you should see on your computer screen.)

  1. In the Blackboard Collaborate window, either:
    1. click the Application Sharing button, or...
    2. click Tools Application SharingAudio Setup Wizard
  2. Next, in the Elevated Privileges windows that pops up, click OK.
  3. A window will appear giving you a list of windows that you have open on your computer. Click on the Microsoft PowerPoint Window that has your file open.
  4. In the lower right-corner of the sharing pop-up, click on the Share button.

This will do two things. It will (1) bring the PowerPoint window with your file in it to the front of your screen with a yellow border around it, and it will (2) give you a pop-up windows saying that Microsoft PowerPoint is now being shared.

Once you're sharing the window everything you do in the window will be seen by everyone else in the Collborate session in near-real time. Once you're ready to stop sharing your window, you can...

  1. Click the Stop Sharing button in one of the two top corners of the yellow border around your shared window, or...
  2. Click on the Blackboard Collborate window and go to Tools Application SharingStop Sharing.
